Our Story

Rooted in Herat

For centuries, Herat has stood at the crossroads of civilizations and artistic traditions — celebrated for its architecture, miniature painting, calligraphy, poetry, and textiles.

Within this historic cultural landscape, Khorasan Weaving House continues the tradition of Afghan carpet weaving, preserving centuries of knowledge while creating space for its evolution.

Heritage remains alive when it continues to inspire.

Working alongside Atelier Khorasan, our weavers interpret both traditional compositions and new artistic concepts — allowing centuries-old techniques to express a contemporary vision.

Atelier Khorasan — the eight steps of handwoven Afghan carpets

Our Craft

Made by Human Hands

The design is translated onto the loom, where experienced weavers gradually bring the composition to life, knot by knot and row by row. This process cannot be rushed.

Crafted with devotion — hand-knotted carpet on a traditional loom
01

Handwoven

Every knot is placed by hand. Nothing is manufactured.

02

Traditional Looms

Vertical wooden looms unchanged for generations.

03

Months of Work

Three to eight months for a single carpet, sometimes longer.

04

Precision

Every row depends on the exactness of the one before it.

05

Human Artistry

No two carpets are identical — the signature of the maker's hand.

"A work created by hands — made to live for generations."

Our Materials

The character of natural materials

The beauty and longevity of a handmade carpet begin with the quality of its materials. We work with carefully selected Afghan wool — valued for its durability, texture, and ability to develop character over time.

Traditional and naturally inspired dyeing approaches create nuanced colours and subtle tonal variations, known as abrash, giving each carpet distinctive depth and vitality.

The result is a surface that feels alive — rich in texture, depth, and individual character.

Our Weavers

"Every knot represents a
human gesture."

The human hand is not simply part of our production process. It is the essence of our work.
